Abstract. The article discusses the notion of possessive relation and the problem of the differentiation of its various types depending on the semantics of the possessor and the object of possessive relation. The paper analyzes the most common applications of two-part verbal sentences with the verb “belong” and the meanings implemented by them on the basis of their actants attribution to a particular lexical and grammatical category. It is shown that these sentences realize a wide range of meanings, both isosemic and non-isosemic, which indicates the presence of the possessive seme in various subject situations.
