Abstract. In the article the content of the concepts “dance” and “танец” in the English and Russian languages is revealed on the basis of the results of the conducted free association experiment. It is shown that psycholinguistic methods make it possible to enrich fundamentally the semantic description of lexical units. The core and the near periphery of the concepts “dance” and “танец” and uncommon features are identified. The authors consider the dynamics of the semantic development of the words “dance” and “танец” in the English and Russian languages.
