Abstract.
The article is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of functioning of the lexeme “precipice” in the conceptual space of I. A. Goncharov’s novel of the same name. The author considers and compares the meanings of the unit “precipice” in various dictionaries. Main attention is drawn to the analysis of metaphorical senses acquired in the text of the work, which make it possible to understand deeper the problems of the novel and to conduct a more detailed analysis of the conceptual space of the novel.
