THE SYSTEM OF PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS WITH AN ADVERSATIVE CONJUNCTION BUT: SEMANTIC ASPECT

Abstract. In the article phraseological units with the adversative conjunction but which are examined as constituents of a field formation and in certain semantic relations with each other. The modification of the meaning of the conjunction but acts as a key criterion of distribution of phraseological units in the structure of the field, whereas the semantics of composed components in their structure, as well as zoo metaphor and impersonation, forming their figurative foundation, allow phraseological units with an adversative conjunction to reflect various fragments of the Englishmen’s worldview.
