Abstract.
The study of the language situation is significant for the development of functional and social aspects of the problems of languages development both at the present stage and in different historical periods. In scientific literature it is defined as the totality of existence forms of one language or combination of languages in their territorial-social relations and functional interaction within certain geographical regions or administrative-political entities. The article considers the peculiarities of the language situation in the Tatar society in the late XIX - early XX century, the nature of which was defined by both endoglossic and exoglossic factors.
