Abstract.
The article provides an overview of the language and cultural components of the English and French phraseological units. On the basis of lexical-grammatical (language material itself) and cultural (historically developed system of values) views on phraseological units with the components-floronyms “spike/thorn” the author identifies some of the features and patterns between the formal symbolic expression of phraseological units and their real spiritual content.
