Abstract.
The article analyzes the concept “beauty” which is realized in the story structure by actualization of reader’s linguo-cultural knowledge, intra-textual relations. On the verge of life and death Makanin’s personage becomes sharply aware of the antinomy of beauty and ugliness. The paper analyzes the esthetic evaluation of human beauty (“outer male” and spiritual), the beauty of the surrounding world (majestic mountains) and beauty of craftsmanship. The researcher argues that the concept “beauty” is developed through the inter-textual paradigm of a literary work and author’s intention.
