Abstract.
The article deals with lexical-semantic features of the lexeme “galäm” (“universe”) and its synonyms “dönja” (“light”), “žihan” (“peace”) in the written sources of the XVII-XVIII century of the Old Tatar language. Diachronic observations of the functioning of these linguistic units in the modern Tatar language show that these lexemes corresponding to the notion of “galaxy, space, world, earth”, having experienced only minor lexico-semantic development, continue to be used in the modern Tatar literary language.
