INVERSION OF SIGN AND SYMBOL PERCEPTION IN THE CONTEXT OF NON-VERBAL THEATRICAL LANGUAGE

Abstract.
Inspiring to contribute to performance semiotic analysis the paper focuses on Ch. Peirce’s sign trichotomy (icon, index, symbol). The analysis of triad scientific interpretation proposed by Ch. Morris, R. Jakobson, P. Pavis and comparison between the triad and E. Fromm’s symbols allowed the author to identify the inversion of sign and symbol perception in the context of non-verbal theatrical language. The proposed examples show that the qualities of symbolic meaning bearers are most typical for iconic sign which establishes paradigmatic relation with interpretant by analogy.
