COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE RUSSIAN AND ENGLISH LEXICAL INTER-LINGUAL LACUNAS

Abstract.
According to linguistic studies, every language contains lacunas - “empty spaces” which are difficult to translate. The paper examines lacunarity as a phenomenon of lexical system, and provides comparative analysis of interlingual lacunas. Six lexico-semantic fields containing interlingual lexical lacunas were subjected to analysis. Relying on the findings the authors conclude on the prevalence of lacunary vocabulary in each of the mentioned fields, summarize the available translation techniques.
