THE CAUCASIAN TOPIC IN LERMONTOV’S POEMS

Abstract.
The article deals with the topic of the Caucasus in Lermontov’s poetry. Lermontov’s love of the Caucasus is explained not only by simply biographical connection of the poet and this mountain region, not only by the admiration of its exotic beauty, but, above all, by passion for freedom-loving, courageous and faithful to duty inhabitants of the Caucasus. It is shown that here Lermontov for the first time introduced domestic and ethnographic realities of the Caucasus into his poems, and Lermontov’s historical approach to folk poetry led to its perception as a source of cognition of the national world outlook at every historical stage, and finally - the cognition of the national character of the Caucasians.
