SPECIFICITY OF LEXICO-SEMANTIC STRUCTURE OF THE ENGLISH STATIVE POSSESSIVE CONSTRUCTIONS

Abstract.
The article examines differential semantic characteristics of predicative constructions with transitive stative verbs “ have”, “own”, “possess” and “lack”. The authors show that the verb “own” expresses additional semes “-large” and “+legal ownership”; the verb “possess” can express the seme “-legal ownership”. In the constructions with “lack” the additional seme “-normal” is realized. The paper examines semantic characteristics of negative constructions with the mentioned verbs in which the complete and incomplete negation is expressed.
