Abstract.
The article is devoted to studying the interference of the English consonants in Russian bilinguals’ English speech under conditions of Russian-English non-contact bilingualism. The author describes the basic types of consonant interference (insufficient differentiation, hyper-differentiation, re-interpretation and phonetic substitution), and provides the examples of typical deviations from English orthoepic norms among the Russian students articulating English consonants depending on the type of phonetic interference.
