FUNCTIONAL FEATURES OF THE ENGLISH CONTRASTIVE DISCURSIVE MARKERS

Abstract.
The article gives a classification of the English contrastive markers, describes their functional features, and analyzes the belonging of markers to parts of speech. The carried out research of the lexical units confirms their wide distribution in the English language discourse. The set research tasks are solved from the positions of pragmatic approach to the description of the studied linguistic units. The authors present an empirical material that illustrates the proposed positions about specific functional characteristics of contrastive markers depending on the communicative goal that is being realized.
