Abstract.
This article deals with the Creole language of the Republic of Cabo Verde based on the Portuguese language. The author’s research touches such unpopular subject of modern linguistics as Creole orthography. The article represents an effort to put in order basic stages in the history of Cape Verdean orthography up to present days, systematizing information about old and modern graphic system used for writing the Creole language of Cabo Verde, comparing with Portuguese alphabet as the base of graphic system of Cape Verdean Creole. The author made a hypothesis about hybrid nature of Creole graphics and an important conclusion that instability in orthography represents the variability of Creole sociolects existing in the Republic of Cabo Verde nowadays.
