THE SPATIAL SEMANTICS OF THE RUSSIAN PREPOSITION ВОКРУГ AND THE ENGLISH PREPOSITIONS ROUND AND AROUND

Abstract. In the article the author considers the spatial meanings of the Russian preposition ВОКРУГ in comparison with the English prepositions ROUND and AROUND, analyzes the relations between the local meanings of the prepositions, and identifies the factors relevant for describing their semantics. The comparison of the prepositions of different languages makes it possible to reveal the appropriate for their description concepts which demonstrate various schemes of space division in two languages.
