Abstract. The article discusses the question of the representation of the concept “silence” in the German literary text. The author analyzes the lexical units with the meaning “to be silent” constituting the periphery of the concept “silence” and representing verbal and non-verbal means of communication. The description of examples from literature is accompanied by an analysis of the mental state of the characters, causing the reason for their silence.
