Abstract.
The article examines the usage of Anglicisms in the German and Russian press, and compares their stylistic functions. Anglicisms are stylistic linguistic units which perform special functions in the text. Special attention is paid to the pragmatic and communicative usage of borrowings. The analysis identified that in the German and Russian languages Anglicisms perform the following stylistic functions: creating the effect of novelty, transferring local, social or scientific colour, linguistic economy, achieving stylistic variation, pragmatic and communicative value.
