EPIPHANIES OF ANDREI BELY AND CARL JUNG

Abstract. The article analyzes Andrei Bely’s literary and publicistic heritage in the cultural context of the epoch at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. In particular, the author raises the problem of correlations between Andrei Bely’s symbolist intuitions and Carl Jung‘s psychoanalytic theory. The common points of Bely’s philosophical search and Jung‘s scientific conclusions are comprehensively analyzed in the modern humanitarian studies. The paper considers the path of personal spiritual transformation proclaimed by Bely and Jung. Having analyzed literary texts and publicistics by the Russian writer and poet and some of Jung’s psychoanalytic researches the author concludes: they both agree that Christ representing the selfhood archetype is the key point of personality’s spiritual self-transformation. Individual’s spiritual ascension occurs at the moments of epiphanic revelations depicted by artistic means in Bely’s works and theoretically interpreted in Jung’s studies. The “dialogue” between Bely and Jung broadening the horizons of human self-consciousness is relevant for the modern anthropological sciences.
