THE PROBLEM OF PHRASEOLOGICAL UNIT DEFINITION IN DUTCH

Abstract.
The article reveals the problems of defining phraseological units in the Dutch language. The relevance of this article is determined by the poorly developed notion of phraseology in Dutch linguistics on the one hand, and by the structural specificity of the Dutch set expressions in comparison with the Russian ones on the other hand. This specificity does not allow the author to apply mechanically to the Dutch material the criteria for identifying phraseological units developed in the domestic science of language. The article covers a wide historical study of phraseology in the Netherlands, based on the work of the Dutch, Belgian and German researchers.
