Abstract. The paper focuses on analyzing mystical and occult element realized in the following subject areas: life after death; living but dead body; metempsychosis; necromancy phenomenon; fatality and fate. The author concludes that in spite of its apparent rationality, logicality and sketchiness, Edgar Allan Poe’s story accumulates mystical and occult phenomena on the verge of absurdity including supernatural reality adopted and accepted by the writer both within the framework of literary creation and beyond it.
