Abstract.
The article deals with initial abbreviations derived from the French nominal formulae. The relevance of the research lies in the need to study and identify new tendencies in the field of abbreviation, which shows high productivity in the modern media. It is noted that the study of the peculiarities of the abbreviations of nominal formulae promotes the disclosure of the potential possibilities of proper names. It is stated that abbreviations act as secondary nomination acts; in the French media they perform compressive, nominative, expressive, informative and stylistic functions.
