Abstract.
The article is devoted to the problem of improving future technical intellectuals’ speech culture, its relation with the level of general culture and professional competence. The author examines the potentials of the discipline “Russian Language and Culture of Speech” to evoke the interest for autonomous foreign language learning. The paper considers the peculiarities of using language varieties and the difficulties arising when studying different types of literary norm. The researcher analyzes creative linguistic potentials of technical students and concludes on the importance of raising the level of their speech competence.
