Abstract.
The article is devoted to analyzing the peculiarities of using echo question as a structural element of dialogic unity in the modern English fiction by the example of the novel by Maureen Johnson “Jubilee Express” (2008). The choice of the subject is conditioned by growing interest for echo questions as a special type of dialogic response in the modern linguistics. The authors for the first time examine lexico-semantic features of echo question and identify pragmatic potential of this type of responsive replicas due to which echo question becomes one of the most efficient means of influence. The analysis of the novel allows concluding that echo question performs pragmatic function, and additional expressions - informative one.
