Abstract. The article is devoted to one of the relevant issues of studying the specific theory of Yakut-Russian, Yakut-English translation; in particular, the authors consider the techniques to translate Yakut heroic epos olonkho. Olonkho represents not only linguistic, but cultural and historical wealth of the Yakut people. The paper attempts to analyze the techniques to translate expressive means used to describe the personages of P. V. Ogotoev’s olonkho “Eles Bootur”.
