Abstract. The article compares two novels of the greatest writers of the XIX and XX centuries - Oscar Wilde’s “The Picture of Dorian Gray” and the posthumously published novel by Ernest Hemingway “The Garden of Eden” - in terms of the presence of biblical images and motives in them, the central theme of which is the motive of the Garden of Eden. Thus, the scientific novelty is in the unexpected context of research. Despite the difference in the creative methods of the two authors under study, there is a surprising similarity in the solution of this topic. Both Wilde and Hemingway write in their works about the inevitable loss of Paradise (the purity of the Soul and thoughts), but also about its return. Both authors associate heavenly bliss with the process of creativity. Both describe the theme of temptation and form triangles of characters. This similarity is explained by the writers’ belonging to the paradigm of Christian culture.
