Abstract.
The article analyzes the novel of Kabardian writer Hachim Teunov “Podari krasoty dushi” (“Give me the Beauty of the Soul”) and focuses on studying its artistic peculiarities. Such an approach allows identifying artistic aspects which, according to authors’ viewpoint, are insufficiently investigated. H. Teunov solves the problems of moral self-improvement by the example of the image of main personage Akhmed. The writer traces the complicated process of forming the character of the young scientist-ethnographer Akhmed Naurzokov who personifies the Kabardian intelligentsia. The novel is written in the first person, and it endows the narration with emotionality of a heart-to-heart talk. The writer discovers all the aspects of the Adyghe etiquette, but fosterage practice plays an important role in storyline and compositional structure of the novel, in the revelation of national characters. Identified peculiarities allow the authors to conclude on enrichment of epic tradition which is associated with the origin of a new genre of lyro-epical novel.
