Abstract.
The article examines the evolution of the English inflective Present and Past Tense forms by the example of the Gospels of Wycliffe’s Bible, Tyndale’s Bible and King James Version. The studies identified the similarities and differences in the usage of verbal forms in the analyzed texts. The authors provide a comparative-contrastive analysis of tense-aspect forms, contextual and semantic analysis of certain verbs. The paper emphasizes qualitative changes in the paradigm of synthetic forms at the turn of the Middle English and the Early Modern English.
