Abstract.
The research of gender discourse of the Caucasian works of the Russian Romanticism writers of the XX century allows deriving the law of “masculinity” and “femininity” notions correlation with the needs of historical time. By the material of the lyrical-epic poem by M. Yu. Lermontov “The Fugitive” the author considers the image of a socially active, selfless and heroic mother, capable of suppressing her biological instincts in the interests of the ethnic collective. Particular attention is paid to the issues of the intertextual connection of Lermontov’s poem with the folklore works of the North Caucasus peoples.
