ARTISTIC SINGULARITY OF V. G. KOROLENKO’S ESSAYS “AT THE COSSACKS”

Abstract.
The article is devoted to the study of the artistic singularity of V. G. Korolenko’s essays “At the Cossacks”, the features of their problems and poetics. Specificity of the presentation of the material in the so-called travel essay is considered from the point of view of the synthesis of artistic and publicistic principles typical for the given work, which enabling to interpret the documentary material creatively. The study of the essay “At the Cossacks” is based on a comparative-typological analysis, which allows involving a wide historical and biographical context: early sketches and variants, memoir and diary notes by Korolenko and his contemporaries. Particular attention is paid to the study of the sketchiness, fragmentariness of the narrative, relevant for the development of the Russian prose of the early XX century, contributing to the creation of both an individual and collective image of the Uralians.
