Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of the beginning of the process of the Arab press activation in Lebanon in the second half of the XIX century, when the country was an integral part of the Ottoman Empire. The author considers both the role of the activity of the first Lebanese newspapers and magazines, as well as their influence on the neighboring Arab countries. It is concluded that the formation of the periodical press of Lebanon, which was one of the manifestations of the awakening of the Arab social and political thought - “nahda” (renaissance), had a significant influence on the development of the Arab journalism.
