Abstract.
The article analyzes compositional and stylistic devices, with the help of which the memoirists-emigrants create an image of People’s Commissar for Education A. Lunacharsky. The personality of the People’s Commissar is given in a wide metonymical and metaphorical sense. A. Lunacharsky personifies the Soviet bureaucratic system and wider - the Soviet state as such. In creating his portrait the writers express their position with respect to the Soviet statehood as a whole. The specificity of creating the image of the official that is not typical of this type of prose is principal in the emigrant memoirs of G. Ivanov and V. Khodasevich.
