Abstract.
The article is devoted to the problem of using the techniques of personages’ linguistic identification and typologization in L. N. Tolstoy’s early creative work. Considering the motives for frequent use of personages’ speech characteristics, the authors conclude on the existence of two factors promoting the formation of this distinctive feature of Tolstoy’s narration - firstly, his fundamental cultural attitude towards literary tradition, and, secondly, unconscious tendency to versification of narration cognitive texture. The analysis of L. N. Tolstoy’s early works indicates the dominance of a certain type of speech characteristics conditionally called “lexical” or “glossarial”.
