Abstract.
The article analyzes and compares the Ossetian and the English national-specific etiquette greeting formulae representing the culture and mentality of the nation. The relevance of this comparison is determined on the one hand by the interest of modern linguistics to the problems of inter-linguistic communication. On the other hand, the linguistic analysis of greetings makes it possible to identify notions and social attitudes that are significant for each culture.
