SPECIFICITY OF IMAGE TRANSFER WHEN TRANSLATING A. NOTHOMB’S NOVEL “STUPEUR ET TREMBLEMENT” INTO RUSSIAN, ENGLISH AND ITALIAN

Abstract.
The article discusses the specificity of transferring images from the novel by the modern Belgian writer Amélie Nothomb “Stupeur et Tremblement” (“Fear and Trembling”) when translating it into Russian, English and Italian. The comparative analysis of this autobiographical novel indicated that all the images (personages, objects, emotions) expressed by different lexico-stylistic means (metaphors, comparisons, epithets, neologisms, phraseologisms, etc.) serve to create an integrated author’s image. Using extensive illustrative material the paper identifies the techniques and adequacy level when transferring the meaningful and figurative components of a literary work into the mentioned languages and summarizes the research findings.
