Abstract.
The article is devoted to the description of the principles and methodology of one of the possible approaches to the interlingual study of metaphorical statements - the derivational approach. The material of the analysis is the contexts from the works of the English, French and Russian writers of the twentieth century, united in denotative classes. The comparison of introduction and basic semantic structures of a metaphorical statement in each of the denotative class allows setting interlingual differences and similarities in the situations reproduced in the figurative statements and providing the process of metaphorization.
