Abstract.
The article deals with the national and cultural peculiarities of phraseological units with the ornithonym component. The phraseological composition of the language represents the historical and spiritual experience of the people. In the course of the comparative study of phraseological units, the understanding of national specificity leads to the understanding of the diverse aspects of lives of the people, who speak this language, the definition of common and distinctive features of the world perception. The study of the national and cultural peculiarities of phraseological units is of great importance for the research of the foreign language as it improves the motivation for mastering the language increasing aesthetic and emotional impact. Phraseological units are studied at three levels, at which their national and cultural specificity manifests itself. The absence of the phraseological unit similar in meaning in the native language of a person creates certain difficulties in understanding the speech addressed to him or the correct perception of literary works. Knowledge of the national specificity of phraseological units plays an important role in crosscultural communication, since it contributes to the adequate understanding of the meaning that is laid in the utterance.
