Abstract.
The article is devoted to the study of the creativity of the Yakut prose initiator Anempodist Sofronov. The author notes that the writer was one of the first in national prose to give extensive portrait characteristics of heroes, detailing a person’s appearance. It is ascertained that a person’s character in the stories corresponds to his / her appearance: the appearance of positive characters is attractive and harmoniously combined with their inner world, and negative characters are mainly represented in a satirical vein. Grace and plastic movements stand out in women’s portraits. When creating caricature portraits, the techniques of grotesque, antithesis, pronounced speech characteristics are used. The author comes to the conclusion that the literary description of a person’s appearance and psychological portrait in A. Sofronov’s works are subordinated to one and the same objective - the disclosure of a character’s personality.
