Abstract.
The article analyzes the translation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle” by G. A. Charskiy in 1903. This translation is significant for the study of the translation reception of the English writer’s detective work and represents the main trends in the evolution of the literary translation of the early ХХ century. The translation by G. A. Charskiy is characterized by the desire to preserve the composition of the story, as well as its problems. At the same time, in this translation the strategy of “domestication” of the text is implemented. The elements of colloquial vocabulary are applied with the aim of adapting the work to the perception of the Russian reader.
