Abstract. The article reveals the perception of Chingiz Aitmatov’s story “Farewell, Gulsary!” by the American literary critics S. Soucek, A. Qualin and Sh. D. Graham. S. Soucek is sure that the Kyrgyz writer’s works will be enthusiastically greeted by the readers tired of stereotyped characters and plots. A. Qualin sees Ch. Aitmatov’s task in the protection of his people’s culture from various internal problems of the state. Sh. D. Graham notes that the method of realism, used by Aitmatov in his work, differs from the realism of the XIX century. The works close in the thematic aspect with the specified subject were written twenty years ago, and it should be noted that they could not get out of Soviet ideology influence. The author analyzes the American literary critics’ works, which have not been considered earlier.
