Abstract.
The article discusses the features of conveying the realia of the Russian literary text into English. The authors carry out the comparative analysis of the realia translations in the story by A. P. Chekhov “The House with the Mezzanine” made by native speakers of English and Russian. The study shows that the translation of realia requires that the translator not only possesses certain strategies and techniques for the proper rendering of the elements that are nationally specific, but also knows and understands the national character, culture, traditions and historical allusions of a specific nation.
