Abstract.
The article presents the results of a comparative study of popular literature perception by an ordinary reader in the United States and Russia. The paper analyses and correlates the survey responses of young people - students majoring in the humanities - with the literary theory and identifies the characteristic features of popular literature perception depending on the respondents’ cultural factors. Basing on the examined material, the authors make conclusions about more positive perception of popular literature in the West connected with the peculiarities of the American book market.
