Abstract. The article covers the history of studying the Thai theatre and dramaturgy, provides a brief review of the literature on this topic. For a number of objective reasons, it remains poorly studied in modern domestic and foreign literary criticism. There are few works touching upon the problems of the traditional theatre; and modern dramaturgy in Thailand has not been a subject of a special complex analysis. The paper characterizes the most valuable works of the leading experts in the field of the literature and theatre of Thailand, which laid a theoretical and methodological basis for the further study of various aspects of the Thai theatrical tradition, as well as the dramaturgy of the modern age and contemporary history.
