Abstract.
The article deals with the part of the texts of the curriculum vitae, which includes cover letters. It is ascertained that the existence of different assessments of the role of cover letter texts in the society is of practical interest both to specialists in the field of textual linguistics and from the perspective of applied linguistics, for example, when writing texts of cover letters for various formats of curriculum vitae. Using contrastive-descriptive and typological methods of linguistic analysis, the authors of the article prove the correlation of the grammatical characteristics of the studied type of the text with such genre characteristics as formality, brevity, individualisation, pragmatism and accuracy. The results of the work confirm the unique peculiarities of this type of the text bringing it closer to the fiction text and extending the boundaries of understanding the norms of the official business letter.
