Abstract.
The article identifies the peculiarities of the modern parliamentary discourse of the Czech Republic. The study is based on analysing the Czech parliamentarians’ discussion style and argumentative strategies used in debates, speeches and addresses to the government. The analysis has indicated that the modern Czech parliamentary discourse is characterized by politeness and argumentativeness. These features manifest themselves in institutionalized parliamentary communication. The analysis of empirical material testifies that the Czech politicians feel more comfortable delivering speeches rather than holding discussions, which at the same time show deep expressiveness of the language based on the usage of colloquial expressions and figurative-expressive means of the Czech language.
