SEMANTIC-RHETORIC MEANS OF CONSTRUCTING A NEGATIVE ATTITUDE TO IMMIGRANTS (BY THE MATERIAL OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE)

Abstract.
In the framework of the critical discourse analysis by the material of the leading information channels “CNN” and “BBC World”, the British editions “The Daily Mail”, “The Guardian” and “The Daily Express”, the article studies the semantic-rhetorical means of the discursive reproduction of negative attitudes towards immigrants. It is found out that the power elites, using the mass media, construct public opinion with regard to immigrants favourable to the power bloc, form and support negative images of “aliens” as representatives of other races, ethnic groups and cultures.
