Abstract.
Oral sequential translation is considered as one of the most complicated types of translation. An interpreter’s shorthand is an important instrument of a sequential interpreter’s activity. The authors analyze shorthand systems of famous translation schools taking into account their efficiency in translation process. The paper provides illustrative examples of an interpreter’s shorthand taken from theoreticians’ works and considers the basic principles of an interpreter’s shorthand writing developed by J. Herbert, J.-F. Rozan, P. K. Minyar-Beloruchev, I. V. Zubanova.
