Abstract.
The article examines specificity of using real personages’ images in N. V. Gogol’s book “Selected Passages from Correspondence with Friends” (1847). By concrete examples, the researcher identifies and describes Gogol’s techniques to introduce real personages’ images: biographical fact or psychological characteristic, explicit or implicit mentioning, referring to the image of a historical personage or a private person. Relying on the findings, the paper ascertains close relation of Gogol’s artistic techniques and the artistic and philosophical conception of the “right book”.
