Abstract.
The article provides a comprehensive philological analysis of the story “The Legend of Khuga” by the modern Ossetian writer Irlan Khugaev. The conducted research allows concluding that the writer reconsiders the established view of a mountaineer traditionally endowed with such features as fearlessness, boldness, dexterity, neglect of danger and describes an ordinary rural worker, with all his weaknesses and shortcomings, who appreciates folk culture, folk traditions and finds happiness in everyday work. For the first time the paper examines in detail all the text elements influencing its interpretation.
