Interpretation of E. A. Poe’s Parable “Shadow” in the Context of Occult and Mystical Artistic Figurativeness

Abstract.
The study aims to identify mystical and occult elements in E. A. Poe’s tale-parable “Shadow”. Mystical and occult phenomena - metempsychosis, death, living but dead body, astrological and numerological symbolism - are subjected to a comprehensive analysis. It is shown that using mystical and occult elements, the writer creates a unique multilayer polysemantic work containing an allegorical component. Scientific novelty of the paper lies in the fact that E. A. Poe’s creative work is considered from the viewpoint of its occult and mystical figurativeness and artistic originality. The researcher concludes on the importance of occult and mystical artistic elements while interpreting E. A. Poe’s works.
